The Memphis Zoo

In progress
Architect: CLR Design

MFA Program Management is serving as the Owner’s Representative for the Memphis Zoo’s transformative Africa expansion, a signature capital project that will reimagine more than 12 acres of the Zoo’s eastern campus into a world-class African savanna experience. Working alongside Zoo leadership and the design team, MFA is providing program management services to guide planning, design, budget, schedule, and project coordination from concept through implementation.

The project will significantly expand and modernize habitats for elephants, giraffes, rhinoceroses, and mixed hoofstock while creating immersive guest experiences centered around conservation, education, and animal well-being. Key features include a new African Lodge with panoramic habitat views, expanded interconnected animal habitats, elevated guest boardwalks, interactive feeding experiences, and improved operational facilities designed to support long-term animal care and Zoo operations.

As the Zoo advances from concept planning into schematic design, MFA is helping coordinate the multidisciplinary team, oversee project development, and ensure the vision is delivered through a disciplined, transparent program management approach. The Africa expansion represents one of the Memphis Zoo’s most significant capital investments, positioning the institution as a leader in innovative habitat design, guest engagement, and wildlife conservation for generations to come.
